Fred Hampton Sr. was an American activist. A skilled speaker and organizer, Hampton quickly moved through the ranks of the Black Panther Party. He became the leader of Chicago’s Black Panther branch, then the chairman of the Illinois Black Panther Party, and finally the deputy chair of the national Black Panther Party. He engaged in grassroots activism, working as an organizer, a peacemaker, and taking part in the Black Panther free breakfast program.
